You can create an online business with absolutely no cash expense. You may not want to go that bare, but you can. Bum marketing is one case in point.

Marketers are often in love with with the most recent killer app or marketing technique. Marketing and advertising using social media may look enticing but makes no sense if you discount business profiles and traditional SEO.

Search Engines:

Natural SEO means Google. If you master getting your site ranked in the first page of natural results, the rest can wait and will probably take care of themselves.

Search engines and web directories come in various flavors:

- major players (Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask)
- blog search engines
- RSS search engines
- web directories
- specialty search engines (real estate, news, etc.)

Organic search results – the holy grail of making the first page of Googles SERPs – is dependent on selecting the precise niche keyword phrases to anchor in unique content posted on your blog, website, or thousands of other locations on the web.

Content:

Spiders or bots from the main search engines continuously index every word on the Internet. Unique content targeted to your money keyword phrases will increase your ranking in Google.

Content can be posted online in:

- your own hosted website or blogs
- article directories
- free blog hosts
- community websites
- free websites
- free blog space in some social media sites

A great deal has been written regarding duplicate content and whether or not there is a penalty. The duplicate content penalty is mostly a myth. What actually happens is Google, when faced with the identical article posted in many places, will not return all in the search results.

A Google slap for duplicate content is rare, except when the exact identical content shows up numerous times on the same website. I once had an article picked up and republished on 800+ websites. They all showed up in Google until the results were narrowed down to just the most important sites.

Bum marketers pride themselves on writing up to 50 articles a day. I can write and spin a 500+ word article in 2 or 3 hours. A good spin can generate 1,000+ articles with 80% or more unique content. A spinner can also assist by spinning the title.

Every point of hype now has a unique article producing a one way backlink to my money site, or any website I prefer. Google loves backlinks almost as much as content.

A good manual spinner and a decent writer eliminate all duplicate content issues.

A good manual spinner like Magic Article Rewriter is okay, meaning you generate all the sentence and word substitutions. The language is all yours. Automatic rewriters can create stilted, unnatural text – and frequently do.

Laziness comes when a marketer gets a hold of thousands of free PLR articles and does an automatic spin. So many of these articles have been rehashed online that the search engines do not find them worthwhile.

The lone real use for PLR is ideas. If you see anything you like, redraft the ideas into your own words.

Profiles

The usefulness of social media comes from the relationship features, especially the ability to create a individual or business profile. You are able to brand your business and create authority one way backlinks to your website.

Types:

- business listings (Google Places, Localeze)
- IYPs (MagicYellow, Yellowbook)
- online business profiles (LinkedIN, BusinessCard2)
- article directories (Ezinearticles, Goarticles)
- social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace)
- social bookmarking sites (Digg, Diigo)
- microblogging sites (Twitter, Plurk)
- free blog hosts (Blogger, WordPress)
- community websites (Squidoo, Hubpages)

Most profiles allow users to post a link to their website. Every time you do, you are generating an authority one way backlink which Google loves.

When you cross promote using all free advertising and promotion methods, a number 1 listing in Google is feasible for all but the most competitive keywords.
